How to find the right aged care residential facility?
For some of us as we age it no longer is safe or practical to stay living at home once we need more care with daily living. The move into an aged care residential facility can be daunting, navigating the aged care system and then finding the right facility.
To be eligible to move into an aged care residential facility you need to be approved for permanent care. To do this you need to have an aged care assessment done and to organise this you contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 and request an assessment for permanent care.
To find the right aged care residential facility, think about what is important to you.
Things to consider are:
Location, do I want to live close to where I currently live, or close to family and friends, select a few suburbs you would prefer.
What type of accommodation do I want? Single room with en suite, a shared room or are you looking for something larger like a suite.
What is important to me? You may wish to be in a religious-based facility, you may wish to have a room on the ground floor, you might like to look out on a view or a garden, you may want to make sure your dog can visit or maybe certain activities are available such as crafts or a billiard table.
Can the facility meet my care needs, this is especially important if you have a unique care need.
Another thing to consider is the cost of rooms in the facility in relation to your circumstances but be assured everyone can afford aged care.
It can be an overwhelming time for individuals and their families so you may wish to engage a placement consultant, a service which we supply at Age Well Solutions.
